Our friend Anthony Praveen who is only in his early 20's (I think 23) has an Orphanage and a Sewing School. The sewing School is for women who have been beatin or abused by their husbands. They come and are given a place to stay and Melissa (an indian lady who sold her home to make this happen) teaches them how to sew so they can find employment. She has 16 women that she has taken in right now. These pictures were taken on the Grand Opening of the Sewing Machine School. There was a great honoring that day as they are so happy that the church donated the sewing machines you will see in some of the pictures. They made flower lei's for all of us, had a ribbon cutting ceremony.....gave speeches about how happy they were, and asked us to make speeches. This happened once before to me. (at the other orphanage where the church donated tables and chairs for the children) They also made a fancy plaque that is part of the building. Elder Kasper got to do the unveiling of that sign! It was a very big deal to these people. Refreshements in India always scare us a bit as we have tried to be very careful not to eat at just any place. We sometimes feel obligated to try because we don't want to offend the people. This day we ate a SUGAR BALL.......I'm still not sure what it was, but it was terribly sweet......and gave me an instant headache.......It didn't last long and we didn't get sick......also had pop (which we drank but generally speaking you turn down anything that is liquid here) and the biscuits (a non sweet cookie) were good.
In the top picture on the right there are 2 girls that are sisters. Blessy who is in the Pink shirt and Nissy who is in the black top. They also have a sister named Krissy. There father is in the picture and he owns most of the property where the Sewing School is.
