Holi

This picture got left out of the Holi celebration pictures. Kids spraying colored water at each other.
Lately we have seen lots of trucks filled with people like this. We have been told that because of the elections they import people from the villages and take them to rallys to make themselves look good. The more people who attend the rally the better the politician looks!! The women are at the front of the bus and the men at the back! How polite......
Another festival took place this week. Wednesday was Holi. Holi is a Spring time Hindu festival that is known as the festival of colors. It is celebrated by throwing colored powders at each other and colored water in big squirt guns. (with big streams of water.) It’s believed that all the colors that are used at this festival take the sorrow out of life and make life more fun and colorful. If you have old Clothes or things you want to get rid of, this is the time for burning the old. Days before Holi they build a bonfire and start throwing some of their things in it. The one on our street is topped with a man with the face of a devil on it. The burning symbolizes getting rid of the bad in your life and the good will come forth. Kids and everyone like this celebration because of the paint throwing.
We were not allowed out because they throw paint all day at everyone. It starts early in the morning and is over about 4 p.m. in the afternoon.
It was the first time that we took a taxi to the church. We were not allowed to walk.

These pictures show a mild version of what we saw. Everyone including adults had paint. Some paint was so dark that you had a hard time seeing the face. These kids are on our street. The 2 smallest children always come and shake our hands. The older boy always asks us where we are going.

This little sweetie shakes our hand all the time. She's our little friend.

WE had a similar holiday in Ecuador called Carnival. They would throw things on you if you were in the street. . .eggs, flour, paint, water. . .whatever they could find to throw they would. We never were in lock down. . .we just had to convince the natives not to get us. The worst that happened to us was getting water thrown on us. We were soaked.

Okay! I went in to change your music and decided to leave a comment forgetting I was logged on to your page. So it looks like you made that comment, but it was me. Sorry about the "love bug" song. I didnt know that it was on there. I am still learning how to do all this blog stuff right, so I make a lot of mistakes.

just think, if you were in Idaho, you could throw potatoes at people. I would like to think that someone would throw mashers with gravy and a steak at me. If you didn't do laundry for awhile, you could possibly grab an old shirt that someone hit you in the back of and scrape it off for leftovers. I bet that paint has a high lead content. Seems that you two are have a blast. keep up the good work. I have it under control here in the states, take all the time you need. Be Good, Love You Maniacs, Erik
